Postdoc / Research Scientist
PhD in artificial intelligence or related area. Technical background combining traditional AI and cognitive approaches (e.g., case-based reasoning, planning, natural language) with newer statistical approaches (e.g., machine learning, intelligent systems, text mining). Specific opportunities
We are looking for BS/MS/PhD students for Fall 2008 who have the background and interest to work on the following projects:
- Cobot is a Web 2.0 agent that participates in forums/chatrooms. It interacts with people discussing health issues, and finds relevant information from health websites to interject into the conversation. This project requires AI and NLP algorithms along with internet APIs and Web 2.0 UI.
- Inquus is entering commercialization phase and is being spun out as a startup company. It provides online collaboration spaces for students to meet and study together. This project requires Web 2.0 UI/UX design and implementation using Flex, Flash, GWT, PHP, or similar toolkits.
- Second Mind is looking at cognitive models for Second Life avatars that let them interact autonomously with other avatars. The interaction is human-like, driven by models of emotion, social behaviors, personality, etc. This project involves AI/cognitive modeling, Second Life interface, and UI/UX aspects to let people interact with and customize their avatars' behaviors and personalities.
- Crystal Ball (Deep Green) is a DARPA project to develop a CBR system that learn to predict the utility and flexibility of futures in courses-of-action simulations for a commander's associate application. Must be good Java programmer, interested in AI / ML / CBR / Game AI algorithms. Must be US citizen or permanent resident.
