Registration Cost: Free and includes lunch, snacks, and refreshments throughouth
The College of Computing’s Office of Outreach, Enrollment and Community at GA Tech is hosting our 2nd Semi-Annual Computational Thinking Olympiad (CTO). The spirit of CTO is to introduce middle school students (6th - 8th grade) to computer science by physically and mentally engaging them in competitions based on computational principles. The Olympiad is modeled after the athletic legacy of the Olympic Games with a computational twist.
Competition Theme: Algorithms & Encoding and Decoding Data
Students will rotate through 5 challenging competition activities while learning to develop algorithms to solve problems and how to encode and decode images and messages and the various types of networks that carry these messages. Teams will be earn points towards medals for each activity and for the overall competition award. This promises to be a fun and engaging day of physical and mental competition to see who can be the ultimate Computational Thinking Olympians.
Ideal Olympiad participants are middle school students who are good at problem solving, mathematics, visual-spatial reasoning, logic, and/or athletic. No prior computing or computer science experience is necessary. Participants will be trained on-site in the relevant computational principles prior to each challenge. They will also be debriefed on the computational relevance of each activity. Space is limited so please Register as soon as possible. Individuals, Teams, and Schools can register to compete in the Computational Thinking Olympiad (CTO) - Click here for more details
