My name is Svetlana Yarosh, though I most often go by "Lana." I'm in my fourth year in the Ph.D. program in Human-Centered Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology (better known as Georgia Tech). My research interests fall primarily in the area of Human-Computer Interaction, particularly Ubiquitous and Social Computing. I have a passion for empirically investigating social problems or needs that may be addressed through computing applications. After identifying these opportunities, I design and develop technological interventions, evaluating them using a balance of qualitative and quantitative methods. Most recently, I have designed a media space system supporting synchronous remote communication between children and parents to help address the needs of divorced families.

- October 20th: Georgia Tech has nominated me for the IBM Fellowship!
- October 13th: I'm officially on the program committee for IDC 2010 as Workshop Co-Chair!
- September 25th: I'm back in Atlanta working on my thesis proposal
- September 18th: I submitted a full paper to CHI 2010 on my work at Microsoft Research!
- September 13th: Found out that our workshop proposal for CHI 2010 got accepted!
- June 29th: I started my internship at Microsoft Research!
- June 3rd - 6th: I was at IDC presenting my paper and my design competition proposal!
- May 18th: My proposal for the Como for Children Design Competition at IDC 2009 has been selected as one of 6 to be presented at a special plenary session!
- Apr 21st: My position paper has been accepted to the Children and Embodied Interaction Workshop
- Apr 8th: The book Mobile Technology for Children has launched including Chapter 14 by me!
- Apr 7th: I submitted a position paper to the "Children and Embodied Interaction" workshop at IDC2009
- Apr 6th: I helped organize the Designing for Families SIG at CHI2009
- Mar 30th - 31st: I visited the ChiCI group at the University of Central Lancashire and presented my work.
- Mar 26th: I presented at the Social Connectedness Workshop
- Mar 17th: Found out that my work at IBM on Activities got into INTERACT 2009!
- Mar 12th: Gave a talk to the User-Centered Engineering group at TU/e about my thesis work.
