Lab Logistics and Guides

As I'm not going to be here next semester, I realized that it would behoove me to pass on all those random logistics things that I've been collecting. Please feel free to add more stuff, if you have things along these veins:

Logistics:

Guides:

Fellowship Essays:

Forms:

Resource Links:
  • Finding full text for papers: (1) Google Scholar, (2) ACM, (3) SpringerLink, (4) JSTOR, (5) Elsevier, (6) Request through ILLiad (surprisingly painless)
  • Mailman Mailing Lists - mailing lists at CoC
  • TSO Software - free software from the CoC for your pleasure
  • Getty Images - images for your PowerPoints (don't forget to attribute properly!)
  • TagCrowd - make a tag cloud from text, infinitely useful!
  • Pew Internet Reports - amazing series of reports and memos on how people use technology from high N surveys - great introduction stuff!
  • Online Statistical Tools - just about anything you may want to do with stats with no need for SPSS or SAS
  • Survey Monkey - great tool for simple free online surveys; great for getting quick feedback. You DO need IRB approval if you plan to report these. Just explain what you're doing and ask for a "Waiver of Documentation of Consent" because it is impractical to get written consent for an online survey.
  • Precision Conference - sign up to do some reviews, it's good experience!
  • Set up printing - the lab printer is "mustang", the common third floor ones are "dad" and "scrod".
